This week has been a reminder in listening to my inner voice. That sounds totally naff, I understand that, but what I’m talking about is cutting through the static, the constant hum of reminders and commentary, that runs through my head all day and distracts me from how I am really feeling, or what I really thing about a situation. When I let the static take over I float through life in a dream state and let the static takeover. I’m not aware of why I am making decisions, or what my true emotions are; I am reacting to situations instead of acting in a way that’s true to myself. This week there were some situations I could have handed with a little more grace had I cut through the static and listened to what the inner Amy needed or thought about the situation. By the end of the week I knew that I just needed to take a deep breath in, stand in the sunshine, listen to my thoughts, and be grateful for this lesson, and the blessings of Week Seventeen.
Monday: Once or twice a year I suffer from a really bad migraine, and on Sunday night out of the blue my head decided it was time for the first migraine of 2015. So Monday was spent with ‘migraine hangover’, which means for me a need to eat porridge for breakfast, take a walk in the cool autumn air, fill my belly with salad, and then spend the rest of the day sleeping. I was grateful to take a moment to rest and recuperate, and just let my body do the work.
Tuesday: Today I was grateful to be back in the game of life! I made it to the gym for a tough interval running session and it felt like a celebration of my body being back on track. I was grateful for the bounty of autumn vegetables in my fridge that became a big pot of soup to keep me warm and full all week long.
Wednesday: I’m working on a secret Thoroughly Nourished Life project at the moment and I can’t wait to share it with you all. I was grateful for the chance to spread my books out all over the bed and just indulge in some project playtime tonight.
Thursday: Tonight I just wanted to walk and walk and walk into the sunset, and so I put my shoes on and my headphones in and just let my feet set the pace. After dinner Chris and I settled in and watched ‘That ’70s Show’. I used to watch this show with my Dad (who does a great Red Forman impersonation) all the time when I was in high school, so every exploit of the gang brings back sweet memories.
Friday: Today I had lunch with my friend Jess and it was exactly what I needed to stop the static in my head. I am grateful to have a friend like you Jess. Tonight Chris and I went to the movies with Mum and Dad to see Fast and Furious 7. We enjoyed popcorn and m&ms and the exploits of Vin Diesel and his ride or die crew. I was grateful for a double date and to share some laughter, some suspension of belief (seriously see this movie, but leave physics at the door), and a great time with people I love. This was the best ending to the week I could have asked for.
Saturday: Today I am grateful for the sacrifice and service of the men and women of our Armed Services. I am grateful for those who came before us and for those who still serve on our shores and in foreign lands. Lest We Forget.
Today I was also grateful for a big walk in the morning with my sister and fur niece, and some time testing recipes in the kitchen in the afternoon.
Sunday: This morning I spent a lovely few hours catching up with my friends Caroline and Josie. Over some delicious coffee we talked about life, books, movies, anything and everything. I am grateful that I still have close friends I made in primary school in my life today. That time with people who have known you and cared about you for nearly your whole life is the perfect way to recalibrate. This afternoon I spent some time in the gym, and more time getting covered in flour, sugar, and spice testing out some great new Thoroughly Nourished Life recipes to share with you soon.
Also this week:
- The kind folks at Coeliac Queensland chose my Perfect Vanilla Cupcake photo as one of their winning photos in the Gluten Free Food Expo Photo Competition! Thank you so much to these wonderful people! I can’t wait to explore all the great new foods at the expo next weekend!
- I made a big pot of Roasted Autumn Vegetable Soup early in the week and lunches were delicious all week long.
